Iwantja Arts and Crafts is a working Aboriginal community situated on a dusty rocky ridge called Indulkana in the Anangu Ptijantjatjara Yangkunyjatjara Lands in remote far north of South Australia.
The art centre commenced in the early 1980’s, with the people already producing traditional wood carving (punu), and batik since the early 70’s.
The strong cultural identity of the people and their will to succeed has resulted in the extension of their range to acrylic paintings on canvas and beautiful intricately woven basket ware, traditionally made by the women of the community. Opportunity to acquire a piece of Aboriginal art which is still being made in the same way as it was forty thousand years ago.
