Jock Mosquito – Walk a Mile With Me
New Works By Jock Mosquito
Jock is an avid fan of the late Country singer Slim Dusty and “Walk a Country Mile” is one of Jock’s favourite songs. Jock has certainly walked many a mile in his lifetime - from the stock camp on Nicholson Station as a young boy, to the lucrative offer to join the National Rodeo Circuit when he was nineteen (which he refused), to the caring family man with eight children and heading towards forty grandchildren, to his participation with some of the most influential land councils and indigenous organisations.
Jock commenced painting with the senior ochre artists Jack Britten, Hector Jandany, George Mung Mung and Rover Thomas (all dcd).  He assisted in the painting of the headboards for Rover’s famous corroboree (Kurrir Kurrir).  After suffering a stroke in early 2005, Jock developed a more minimal style, with the content of his works leaning towards landscape rather than the intricate desert designs he was previously able to execute.
These latest works reflect a further dimension to this collectable artist’s career.
