Lorraine Daylight

Lorraine was born in Wyndham 5th September 1977.  She resides at Warmun Community, Turkey Creek, with her husband Christopher Churchill (an extremely talented young artist) and their six children young children.

Lorraine has been painting since a teenager and comes from a strong painting family.  The content of her paintings is wide, including Purnululu, Springvale (her mother, Jean Daylight’s country) and her father Gordon Barney (a Senior Warmun Artist) country of Alice Downs and Chinaman’s Gardens. Her uncle is Elder Hector Jandany (dscd) who was a wonderful supporter of Lorraine and her art, providing her with the many stories of the Kitja country.

Her favoured medium is thick ochre, from minimal landscape to heavily dotted depictions of Purnululu. Lorraine has developed a distinctive style of movement in her works, very difficult to achieve with thick bush ochre, and is one of the most promising of the third generation ochre artists of the Kimberley.
