About the Artist
Doreen Nolan Nangala is the daughter of the late Dinny Nolan Tjampitjinpa and Alice Napangardi. Dinny was a senior custodian for the Warlpiri people and recognised as a leader of Rainmaking and Water Dreaming ceremonies.
As a young girl, Doreen lived a traditional life with her parents and siblings. Her father was a stockman for many years and they travelled across the Northern Territory while he worked before settling at Papunya. She was the first in her family to join her father when he commenced painting at Papunya in the mid 1970's where she became an acomplished artist.
Doreen primarily paints Jukurrpa from her father’s side (Ngapa Jukurrpa – Water Dreaming) using intricate dotting and meticulous execution.
