His mother Lily is an International artist and the best known of the Wandjina (rock art) painters. Ross followed the family tradition of portraying Wandjina. A family man, Ross lived at Kalumburu Community, Mitchell Plateau, on the far north coast of Western Australia for his entire life. He was not a prolific painter, and listed fishing and hunting as his favourite pastimes. He was an accomplished carver and his carved boabs and slates are some of the best in the region. Ross passed away peacefully after a short illness in his beloved Kalumburu in 2023.
