Anna Price Petyarre / My Country

Born around 1965, Anna comes from a family closely tied to the growth of Utopia art. Her mother Glory Ngale worked in the early batik movement, and through her grandfather she is related to Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Kudditji Kngwarreye.

Anna carried the fluid line of batik into acrylic on canvas in the 1990s and has worked in several styles since. Early paintings are bright and heavily layered, but she is best known for monochrome works where countless tiny dots trace sandhills, creek beds and flood plains around Atneltyeye as though seen from the air. Her work is held by the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria and major state galleries, and she has exhibited widely in Australia, France and the United States.
