Anthony J Walker / Mallakarra

Anthony J Walker brings together his Yiman, Gangalu and Gurreng Gurreng heritage with a lifelong engagement with the natural world. Originally trained as a park ranger, he finds inspiration in his grandparents’ Country and in the coastlines and landscapes of southern Queensland and northern New South Wales. His contemporary imagery is recognised for its lively colour, movement and concern for native plants and animals.

Anthony’s creative career extends beyond the studio. He founded Milbi Designs in 2020 and has held arts development roles supporting Aboriginal artists in regional communities. His achievements include the Wesfarmers Indigenous Arts Leadership Program, a curatorial residency at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art and the Gold Coast Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award. A solo exhibition at Melbourne’s Koorie Heritage Trust further established his national profile.
