Azeza Possum
A third-generation artist from the widely respected Possum family, taught by her mother Michelle Possum Nungurrayi and aunt Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi. Her bold, expressive artworks carry women’s ceremonial Dreamings and family storytelling traditions. Her grandfather Clifford Possum’s work is held in major collections and museums around the world and features prominently in significant publications on the Masters of Australian Art. Azeza was born in November 1995 in Kempsey, New South Wales.
Michelle, the youngest of Clifford’s children, was taught to paint by her father alongside her sister Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi. Both daughters continue to carry forward the cultural narratives, approach, and iconography passed down by Clifford, enriched with vibrant colour and the inclusion of women’s ceremonial narratives and Dreamings. She is the granddaughter of the late Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri AO (c. 1937–2002), one of Australia’s most widely respected Aboriginal artists.
