Bevan Tjampitjinpa
An Anmatyerre artist with strong ties to Ti Tree, where Elders taught him law, ceremony and traditional painting techniques. His wider practice uses Dreamtime symbols to portray hunting, gathering, waterholes and everyday desert life. Bevan Tjampitjinpa was born in Darwin and grew up visiting his homeland at Ti Tree, about 200 kilometres north of Alice Springs. He is an Anmatyerre man of the Ti Tree (Pmara Jutunta) clan, and Ahgee (Bush Plum) is one of his Dreamings.
Bevan studied in Darwin until Year 10 before moving to Ti Tree which is his Grandmother, Grandfather and Mother's country and subsequently moved to live with his Elders on the Anmatjere Lands. He lived permanently with his Elders for the next ten years being taught the cultural ways and being initiated into the ceremonies and laws of the desert region. Bevan speaks fluent Anmatjere and knows the cultural law and how to hunt for bush tucker and bush animals. Bevan was taught to paint by elders in his lineage.
