How Artworks Are Sent

Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.

Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.

These artworks will need to be stretched on a stretcher board before hanging.

This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.

There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.

Artist Profile

Cassie was born in Derby on the 3rd August 1977. She has four children and lives in Kalumburu, in the very far north of the East Kimberley Region. Eldest daughter of the late Kevin and Bernadette Waina, she has inherited her father’s talent in art and her mother’s ability to make beautiful artefacts.

She paints Wandjina and Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) Rock Art figures of the Mitchell Plateau, with emphasis on Bradshaw, as did Kevin, both on canvas, slate and bark. Her younger sister Melissa and her brother Lawrence complete the picture of an extremely important family carrying on the Kalumburu tradition of painting the rock art synonymous with the area. The Karadada family with Lily and her late husband Jack and family have been established in Kalumburu for four generations, making Kalumburu a Mecca for art collectors and tourists.

Both families know the land and their culture will be preserved by the diversity and quality of their art.

Note: Cassie’s sister Melissa is holding the painting. Melissa came from Kalumburu to Kununurra for shopping and brought Cassie’s painting into the gallery on her behalf.

Artist's Description

This is Gwion Gwion and Wandjina Art Rock Painting in the country of the Kwini area where I live. The old people pass down the stories to us about our people respecting the Bradshaw God and his son, who give us directions to the good hunting grounds. Where the “hands” are depicted, this is not a good place for hunting. The art is full of movement and happiness – so long as everyone does the right thing, we will live in harmony, and have good food and good luck.
