I have painted the most important tree in our country – the boab tree. It has been part of our Kitja culture forever. Long time ago, the old people named these trees – they all had different names depending on the shape and where they were. In sitdown time (holiday time for the station workers) later on, lots of people would meet in the area where a particular tree was, for camping and talking and catching up with family and friends. Still today, we eat the inside of the fruit. The old people and the children as well. It tastes a bit like water chestnuts.
