Charlene Carrington / Kimberley Boab (2B)

Charlene is definitely one of the most talented, exciting young artists in Australia.  Born in Perth in 1977, she grew up at Warmun Community, Turkey Creek, Western Australia.  She has established herself as a strong woman, an enthusiastic painter with an enquiring mind and the ability to fulfil her highest aspirations. Charlene is an established International Australian Artist.  

I have painted the most important tree in our country – the boab tree. It has been part of our Kitja culture forever. Long time ago, the old people named these trees – they all had different names depending on the shape and where they were. In sit down time (holiday time for the station workers) later on, lots of people would meet in the area where a particular tree was, for camping and talking and catching up with family and friends. Still today, we eat the inside of the fruit, both old people and the children as well. It tastes a bit like water chestnuts.
