There is a big hill north of Turkey Creek at the Argyle turnoff called Pompeii’s Pillar – it can be seen for miles around. It was a landmark used by the white people when they first came to the Kimberley, for droving cattle and for meeting up. For the Kitja people, this has always been an important place for Ngarrangkarni (Dreaming). This is the Dreaming for the Blue Tongue Lizard (Loomoogoo) – a secret Women’s Business dreaming place. The pillar is split in two, which some say represents the divide between Kitja and Mirriuwong Country.
