Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.
Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.
These artworks will need to be stretched on a stretcher board before hanging.
This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.
There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.
Artist Profile
Claudia Napangardi Williams was born in 1987 in Alice Springs and grew up in Willowra, a remote Aboriginal community, approx. 340kms north west of Alice Springs. Claudia attended the local school and spent her childhood in the surrounding country learning about her land, her culture and her law through her Jukurrpas (Dreamings). Her mother Maggie is also an artist.
Claudia paints her Janmarda Jukurrpa (Bush Onion Dreaming); Jarli Jukurrpa (Frog Dreaming); Karnta Jukurrpa (Women’s Dreaming) and Kanta Jukkurrpa (Bush Coconut Dreaming – Puturlu), Dreamings which relate directly to her land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it. These stories were passed down to her by her parents and grandparents and their parents before them for millennia.
Artwork Description
Bush onions are a traditional bush tucker for Aboriginal people in central Australia. They must be dug up on creek banks when the grass of the onion has dried out. The husk can also be eaten. They are eaten raw or cooked in the hot earth by the fire. The bush onion is of significance to certain Aboriginal people who own this Dreaming and totem and can only be collected according to law. This means they have been given stories of the origins of the bush onion, and are entitled to tell these stories and paint about them.
Claudia’s style consists of beautiful intricate dot work and linear designs that often move from a central point. By painting the seeds Doreen is paying homage to the spirit of the plant in the hope that it will regenerate, enabling the people to use it to make food.
