Davinder Hart / Djurrilai Dhinawan (Emu Star) (DH231)

Davinder Hart is an Indigenous artist born in Perth, Western Australia, with family roots connecting to the Bibbulmun and Katanning regions of the Noongar people in the southwest. After his first birthday, Davinder grew up in Adelaide, where he lived until the age of eighteen.

In early 2013, he travelled to Ayers Rock Resort, where he became an Indigenous activities presenter, sharing his culture with guests from around the world. He led workshops on boomerang and spear throwing, bush tucker, didgeridoo playing, and traditional dance.

Davinder has a deep connection to the Ngemba people of western New South Wales, where he gained a strong sense of identity and cultural ownership. By going out bush and practicing traditional ways, he continues to maintain and pass on this heritage.

Through the knowledge passed down by his uncles and aunties, Davinder tells stories through his paintings. His art not only depicts traditional lessons about morals, ethics, and values but also reflects his personal experiences and cultural journey.

In 2016, at the age of 21, Davinder moved to Far North Queensland, where he began to paint seriously, marking the start of his flourishing artistic career. Since late 2024, he, his partner, and their two young children have been living in country Victoria.

Davinder’s distinctive style has resonated with collectors, leading to sales across Australia and internationally, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, France, and the USA.

Davinder would like to acknowledge his uncle, Waylon Boney, and his grandfather, Paul Gordon, for the knowledge they have passed down to him.

This design is paying respects to the emu in the sky who lives with the creator Biami. Dhinawan (Emu) is part of our creation story alongside her siblings the goanna, the kangaroo and the echidna. In the design you will find the emu eggs which represent the breeding season. When the emu star (Djurrilai Dhinawan) is on the horizon that’s when emus lay their eggs and we can collect them. The emu footprint symbols represent her creating the land as it was rising out of the water in the beginning of creation, then flying off to live with her father Biami in the stars where they can both be seen as a star constellation at night.
