How Artworks Are Sent

Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.

Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.

These artworks will need to be stretched around a wooden frame before hanging

This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.

There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.

Artist Profile

Artwork is accompanied by Yanda Aboriginal Art Certificate of Authenticity/Provenance. Artwork painted by the artist at Yanda Art Studio, NT

Debbie Napaljarri Brown was born in Nyirripi, a remote Aboriginal community 400 km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. She grew up in Nyirrpi, and did most of her schooling there, although she spent several years boarding at Yirrara College in Alice Springs. When she returned to Nyirripi she worked at the store as well as helping to care for old people.

In 2010 Debbie moved to Yuendumu, 160 km east of Nyirripi, with her husband and son Jarvis to be closer to her husband’s family. She worked for the Women’s Centre, cooking lunches for the kids at school.

Debbie has been painting since 2006. Her Grandmother, Margaret Napangardi Brown taught her to paint. Her Grandfather is the renowned Pintupi artist Pegleg Tjampitjinpa who was born c.1920 and grew up in the vicinity of Wilkinkarra, living a traditional life. Debbie would watch her grandmother and grandfather paint and listen to her Grandmother’s Jukurrpa or Dreaming stories.

In her paintings, Debbie paints her father’s Jukurrpa, Dreamings which relate directly to her land, its features, plants and animals. These stories were passed down to her by her Grandmother and her mother and their parents before them for millennia.

Artwork Description

The painting depicts a topography of sandhills, referring to the artist’s country of Nyirripi, 400km north-west of Alice Springs in Central Australia. Illustrated through fine dots, it conveys the moving force of wind and rain that has effect upon the sand hills and its surroundings.

Debbie Brown Napaljarri’s art is remarkably distinctive. She commonly utilises black and red backgrounds in order to overlay intricate rows of dots, that at points, seem to fuse into one and other. Her art possess an indescribable dynamism and movement, which has since become a hallmark of her best works.
