Dulcie Long Pula / Awelye-Atnwengerrp (Body Paint)

An Anmatyerre artist from an extraordinary Utopia artistic lineage. Her wider practice centres Desert Yam and ancestral Country, using richly developed pattern and colour learned through generations of senior women. She is an Anmatyerre woman and a highly respected artist working within one of Australia’s most significant artistic lineages. Dulcie was born in 1979 at Boundary Bore Outstation in the Utopia region of the Northern Territory.

Growing up immersed in this rich cultural and artistic environment, Dulcie was encouraged by her elders to paint the narratives of her family’s Country. Central to Dulcie’s practice is the Desert Yam (Bush Plum) narrative, a vital food source and significant ancestral subject from her homelands. Dulcie’s practice continues to captivate collectors both in Australia and internationally, widely respected for its rhythmic movement, subtle colour and strong relationship with Country.
