Freda Price Petyarre / Country

Freda represents the third generation of her family to work as an artist. Her grandmother Glory Ngale showed batik in the landmark 1988 Utopia exhibition, and her mother Anna Price Petyarre and aunt Delvine Petyarre are both well known painters.

With their encouragement Freda developed her own detailed way of painting Atneltye, or Boundary Bore. Winding creek lines, waterholes, sandhills and seasonal plants are laid out as though seen from above, built from fine dots and repeated curves. Her palette shifts from cool blacks, whites, blues and greens to warm reds, yellows and ochres, yet every work keeps a strong sense of flow. She lives and paints on the Utopia homelands.
