How Artworks Are Sent

Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.

Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.

These artworks will need to be stretched around a wooden frame before hanging

This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.

There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.

Artist Profile

Please Note: Colours in the main image are ‘true’

Janet Forrester Ngala was born c, 1935 and as a young girl she recalls spending most of the time ‘on the road’ with her parents, moving between cattle stations in central Australia. Janet first started painting in 1980 with the Jukurrpa Artists. Since the passing of her husband in 2003, Janet devotes most of her time to her ceremonial duties and looking after her many grandchildren.

Acquisitions by the Australian National Gallery of her Milky Way Dreaming and her Bush Banana Dreaming have raised Janet’s profile. These acquisitions were made through the ‘Johnny Farnham’s jeans’ group, auctioned at Sotheby’s (1995) to raise money for the medical research institute – Jeans for Genes.

Janet paints the Dreaming stories of the Ernabella and Maryvale regions. Many of these stories were inherited from her mother and grandmother. Janet’s meticulous double dotting technique creating three-dimensional vines and blossoms, has become her trademark. Janet comments that the circular background design also represents the never-ending story of life, creation, birth and death.

Janet’s work was included in a major exhibition of the Jukurrpa artists at the Araluen Arts Centre, Alice Springs in 1989 and in several subsequent shows including Desert Dreamings, Grand Hyatt, Jakarta 1992, London 1993, Sydney 1994-95-96-97-98, Melbourne 1994-95-96-97-98, Australian Embassy Washington and New York 1999.

Her works have been acquired by the National Gallery of Australia and collectors from New York, Philadelphia, England, Switzerland, Germany, Rome and Indonesia.

Her major Dreamings include Snakes, Honey Ants, Sugarbag, Bush Banana, Milky Way, Witchetty Grub and Goanna Stories.
