How Artworks Are Sent

Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.

Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.

These artworks will need to be stretched on a stretcher board before hanging.

This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.

There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.

Artist Profile

Julianne Turner Nungurrayi was born at Mt Allen (Yuelumu) to the North West of Alice Springs in April, 1974. Julianne divides her time between her home at Yuelumu, Alice Springs and Adelaide, where her two children went to school. Her eldest son, Farren Furber has begun painting artworks himself, having been inspired by his mother and famous grandmother.

Julianne is the daughter of prominent artist, Maureen Hudson Nampitjinpa. Her style is quite different to her famous mother’s paintings, however there are some similarities as far as design goes. Having being encouraged by Maureen to begin painting in the early 1990’s, Jillian has mastered her mother’s method of using fading dots to create a three dimensional feeling to the paintings. The main stories depicted in Julianne’s artworks are Budgerigar Dreaming, Bush Onion and Women’s Ceremony. Her intense and precise dotwork has a quality to it that very few artists are able to achieve.

Julianne has found success with her artwork in recent years, having spent time at Mulgara Gallery at Uluru as artist in residence. Her exhibitions at this space have always received a wonderful response from the public and the demand for her work has only grown since she began telling her stories on canvas using a variety of different colours, techniques and traditional iconography to depict them. Her attention to detail in these works is incredible, Julianne takes great pride in creating stunning pieces every time she applies paint to canvas.

Artwork Description

The dreaming site shown in this painting is at Yangarnmpi, south of Yuendumu. The budgerigar (Ngatijirri) are small, brightly coloured birds native to central Australia and they are common around the Yuendumu area, especially after the summer rains. Men would hunt the ‘ngatijirri’ nests for eggs which are considered a delicacy. The men would also go out hunting for adult, flying ‘ngatijirri’. In the dreaming, the ‘ngatijirri’ travelled to Yangarnmpi from Patirlirri, near Willowra to the east of Yuendumu and travelled further on to Marngangi, north/west of Mount Dennison and west of Yuendumu. Each time the flock of ancestral ‘ngatijirri’ lands, they perform ceremonies, singing and dancing as they fly and roost in the trees. The sites of these ceremonies are depicted in this painting. After good rains ‘ngatijirri’ can successfully breed several times, resulting in an explosion of the population in a short time. Custodians for this dreaming are the Napaljarri / Nungarrayi women and Japaljarri / Jungarrayi men.
