Kevin Waina / Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) Rock Art

A Kalumburu artist who painted with natural ochres on canvas and bark. His wider practice focused on Gwion Gwion rock art and the Wallarwhroo spirit figure within the cultural geography of Kwini Country. Kevin was a regular visitor to Kununurra, often painting in-house at the gallery. Kevin was born in Wyndham in 1954 and spent most of his life in the remote coastal community of Kalumburu in the far north of the East Kimberley.

Kevin passed away in 2016 after a short illness, surrounded by lineage in his beloved Kalumburu. He and his wife Bernadette raised seven children, with their three eldest, Cassandra, Melissa and Lawrence, inheriting their father’s artistic talent. He exhibited widely, with his artworks now held in major private and corporate collections around the world.
