Lanita Numina Napanangka / My Country

Lanita was born in 1963 to senior artist Barbara Price Mbitjana and learned painting and family stories from her aunties Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre. She later settled in Darwin, where she continues to paint.

Her subjects include Dingo Dreaming, Bush Medicine, Water Dreaming, Thorny Devil Lizard and Desert Wildflowers, but she is best known for expansive My Country works in which symbols, tracks and dotted areas mark waterholes and significant places. Although she has painted fewer works than some of her sisters, her paintings have a clear and consistent voice. In 2004 the Danish community of the Northern Territory chose one of her works as a wedding gift for Crown Prince Frederik and Mary Donaldson, now King and Queen of Denmark.
