Louise Numina Napananka / Ceremonial Body Paint

Louise's mother is senior artist Barbara Price Mbitjana, and Louise was taught to paint, along with her sisters, by her aunties Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre. After schooling at Stirling Station and Yirara College she moved to Darwin, where she went on to earn a Diploma of Fine Arts.

Her signature subject is Bush Medicine Leaves, a women's story about collecting and preparing medicinal plants, which she renders in sweeping brushstrokes that seem to ripple across the canvas. She also paints bush tucker, water soakage, spinifex, Awelye designs and the Thorny Devil Lizard. Her paintings have been shown in Brisbane, Sydney and Darwin, and her designs have appeared on fashion through a collaboration with Brisbane designer Pia du Pradal.
