How Artworks Are Sent
Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.
Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.
These artworks will need to be stretched on a stretcher board before hanging.
This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.
There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.
Artist Profile
Michael Rehardt is a Gold Coast-based Indigenous artist. He likes to work with acrylic on canvas to create large dotted aboriginal paintings that captivate you with colour, imagination and beauty.
His other great artistic love is graphite portraits. This may seem an unlikely combination, but Michaels’s acute eye for detail does both so well. Michael resigned from his corporate career in early 2021 to pursue his passion and love of the arts. His days are now spent painting his indigenous stories or recording music as a solo acoustic singer-songwriter.
Michael’s interest in dot painting was inspired by his mother, Leonie Rehardt, an indigenous artist. She taught Michael her unique style, this becoming the platform for his own style. Michael uses culturally-based techniques to create true Dreamtime stories using his experiences and familial history.
Michael was born off country in Launceston, Tasmania and has strong ties to the Palawa people. His ancestral mob is the Boonwurrung River people of the Port Phillip area within the Kulin Nation of South-East Victoria.
Artwork Description
Cooe Dong is a somewhat lost word with origins from NSW and is sometimes seen as “Quidong” and pronounced “coo-eee-dong”. It means the place of the echo and embodies this piece so perfectly. The piece represents many elements: Change, seasons, land, people, diversity, movement, growth, dreaming and most importantly the thing that connects all of these back to themselves. Spirits. It is within the spirits of tens of thousands of years of my people that we embody our culture. Through Grandfather fire and Mother earth we live and share our stories, with the knowing that everything cycles from life to beautiful death and back to life. We are all in… the place of the echoes. Just listen.
