How Artworks Are Sent
Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.
Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.
These artworks will need to be stretched on a stretcher board before hanging.
This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.
There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.
Artist Profile
Pantjiya Nungurrayi was born c1936, she is a Pintupi speaker, and her country is the region of Kiwirrkurra, in the Gibson Desert, west of Lake MacKay.
Pantjiya was married to George Maxwell Jangala (deceased), an artist with the Papunya Tula Co-operative since the 1970’s. Like many wives of the Papunya male painters, Pantjiya commenced painting with and under the instruction of, her husband. She became an artist in her own right for Papunya Tula in 1996.
She paints the stories of her culture, the Ancestral Women’s travels in the desert country, traditional food gathering, sandhills and rock holes representing sacred places where these women travelled and sometimes perished, and Women’s body paint. Her style is simplistic, varied in content and colouring, consistent with her wide knowledge of her Pintupi heritage.
Together with her female peers, Pantjiya carries on the grass roots tradition of the early desert artists. The works of these women are highly collectable and can be found in the best Private and Corporate Collections within Australia and Internationally.
