Regina Karadada / Wandjina Rock Art

Regina Karadada came from Kalumburu, deep within the Wandjina Country of the north Kimberley. As the eldest daughter of Rosie Karadada, she belonged to a family renowned for painting and artefact making. Her father Louis Karadada and uncle Jack were also respected artists, giving Regina a close view of cultural practice and image-making from childhood.

After years of watching and learning from her family, Regina began painting in the late 1980s. Her work continued the Karadada family’s responsibility for Wandjina imagery while developing her own presence as an artist. She also played an active role in a major tourism venture at Truscott Air Base, on her mother’s Country, where she represented her community with warmth and authority. Her practice links family legacy, cultural custodianship and the remote Kimberley landscape.
