Sade Carrington / Purnululu – Texas Side (Black & White Series)

An East Kimberley artist who built an international career in natural ochre painting after growing up at Texas Downs. Her wider practice belongs to a remarkable Warmun family that includes Churchill Cann and Charlene Carrington. She was employed in the homestead at Texas until 1980, when she joined her relatives at Warmun (Turkey Creek). Sade was born on Texas Downs Station, East Kimberley in 1957.

In 1988 she was invited to present her art-making to the Duchess of Kent during Her Highness' visit to Adelaide. In those days women and children were not taken to paint Purnululu but senior artist Jack Britten would say "Let her come – she's no trouble". In 1997 Sade placed third in the prestigious National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.
