Selina Numina Kamprina
Selina Numina Kamprina was born in 1978 and is the daughter of senior artist and cultural elder Barbara Price Mbitjana of Stirling Station. She belongs to a prominent Central Desert painting family that includes her aunties Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre and her five artist sisters, Jacinta, Lanita, Louise, Caroline and Sharon Numina. After attending boarding school in Darwin, the family settled there while continuing to travel to Ti Tree and Stirling Station.
Selina learned to paint through the women of her family. Her subjects include Bush Medicine Leaves, bush foods, soakages, Women’s Ceremony, Thorny Devil Lizard and Dingo Tracks. These works continue cultural knowledge connected with Stirling Station, Utopia and the wider Central Desert.
