Steven Jabaljarri Sutton / Women Gathering Bush Lemons, Oranges and Plums

An artist raised in Tennant Creek who started creating art at sixteen and combines crosshatching with dot techniques. His contemporary work connects his grandmother’s Roper River Country with Jawoyn family traditions and encourages younger artists. Steven was born in Darwin, NT, and spent his formative years in Tennant Creek, where he started creating art at sixteen.

The crosshatching practice represents his Grandmother’s country, the Roper River region in the Northern Territory. Dot artworks are now internationally recognised as unique and integral to Australian Aboriginal Art.
