Artist Profile
Tanya Nangala Price was born in 1972 at Aileron in the Utopia region of the Northern Territory. Her language group is Anmatyerre. Utopia is located approximately 300km North East of Alice Springs and is home to many well-established artists.
Tanya comes from the most famous painting family based in Utopia and her relatives include artists such as Minnie Pwerle and Gloria Petyarre. Tanya learned to paint by watching her Aunty, senior artist Gracie Morton Pwerle.
Artwork Description
Tanya paints the bush tucker and flowers found in the harsh desert lands of Utopia. Annual rainfall is very low however after the winter rains, the country bursts into life with colourful flowers and bush foods. The women still go out to this day to collect these special plants, seeds and fruits which can be used for many things including as a food source rich with vitamins and bush medicine.
