Venita Woods / Minyma Kutjara (Two Women) Dreaming

A Pitjantjatjara artist from a widely respected family of APY Lands painters, including her grandmother Maringka Baker and mother Elaine Woods. Her vibrant, rhythmic artworks express Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa through journeys, sandhills, waterholes and ancestral sites. A detail from one work later appeared on the cover of a 2012 Flinders University research publication. Venita Woods is a Pitjantjatjara artist born in 1990 at Kaltukatjara, also known as Docker River, in the south-west of the Northern Territory.

Venita learned important narratives from her grandmother and mother and has developed her own approach to expressing them through art-making. Venita was also one of twelve Pitjantjatjara artists who contributed to the monumental collaborative art-making Tjukurpa Kaṉpinyatjara, 2020. By 2014 Venita was exhibiting independently, with her work Minyma Kutjara included in the statewide Aboriginal art exhibition OUR MOB at Adelaide Festival Centre.
