I was born in 1977 in the small outback town of Halls Creek in the Kimberley, WA. This is also where I grew up with my brother and sister and cousin on a small property with my mother and father. My father is a Jaru man and his country is Sturt Creek (situated 210km south of Halls Creek). I went to primary school in Halls Creek and then to high school in Perth.
As a young girl I can remember the time when our whole family would go out bush, camping and fishing. I remember thinking how lucky I was to live in such a beautiful place where you could hear the birds singing, see animals and insects, and see the different colours of the hills and country around you. This feeling for the country where I grew up stayed with me through my teenage years and is still with me today, as an adult.
In 2006 I moved from Halls Creek to Wyndham to start a new life with my husband on a five acre property out of Wyndham, which is surrounded by bush and has a small creek running past the house, which flows when it rains. And again I can remember saying to my husband how beautiful this place was and that we were the luckiest people on earth.
This is where my artistic journey began.
