Chelsea Possum / Women’s Dreaming – My Great Grandmother’s Country

Carries the artistic legacy of her grandfather Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri and mother Michelle Possum Nungurrayi. Her artworks bring inherited Anmatyerre narratives and cultural knowledge into a new generation. She comes from one of Australia’s most recognised Aboriginal artistic families and is the granddaughter of the widely respected artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri AO, whose practice is represented in major public and private collections across Australia and internationally. Chelsea was born in Adelaide, South Australia, in September 1991.

Michelle is the youngest daughter of Clifford Possum and, together with her sister Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, was taught to paint by their father. Her works draw upon the Dreaming narratives and women’s ceremonial traditions connected to the Country of her paternal great-grandmother, Long Rose Nungala. Chelsea is the second eldest daughter of senior artist Michelle Possum Nungurrayi and Heath Tjangala.
