How Artworks Are Sent

Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.

Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.

These artworks will need to be stretched around a wooden frame before hanging

This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.

There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.

Artist Profile

Artwork is accompanied by Yanda Aboriginal Art Certificate of Authenticity/Provenance. Artwork painted by the artist at Yanda Art Studio, NT

b.1982
Language Group: Pitjantjatjara
Region: APY Lands, SA

Christy Young is an exciting young Indigenous painter with great promise and talent. With strong natural drawing skills, her early exposure to painting comes from being a member of one of the most renowned painting families in the desert region of Australia. Christy’s mother, Yaritji Young, is a senior law woman and traditional owner of the Country around Amata and Yaritji’s paintings are now highly sought after across the globe. Christy’s grandparents are Mick Wikilyiri and Paniny Mick, both important cultural leaders and respected artists.

Christy’s paints her mother’s stories including Honey Ant Dreaming (Tjala Tjukurpa) and iconography from her grandparents dreamings, however she brings her own interpretation and artist flair for drawing. Often in a reduced mono-palette or striking black and white, Christy works in acrylic on linen as well as ink on paper.

Christy’s artwork displays the importance of knowledge transfer in Anangu culture and its significance in keeping cultural law and stories alive.

Artwork description

Water is a critical element in the desert and knowledge of rock hole sites is passed from generation to generation and revered by all Pitjantjatjara people. Rockholes were particularly important during the dry season when other waterholes and creeks would dry up. Through stories, songs and art, an intimate knowledge of the topography of the desert and the way rain interacts with the land is passed from generation to generation and revered by all Anangu.
