Desma comes from an artistic family and commenced painting at a very young age. Her aunt was the late Judy Mengil, a senior Mirriwong ochre artist and through her extended family, including Judy, she is able to paint the country where she resides around Kununurra, extending over the Northern Territory border to the environs of Carlton Hill and Newry Stations.

Desma is a naturally talented artist and depicts not only her country but cleverly sketches the flora and fauna of the Kimberley and the animals, birds and fish from the area.

Desma has four children and works full time as a Teacher’s Aid at St Josephs Primary School in Kununurra however with her wonderful talent she will undoubtedly go far in the art world.
