Artist Profile
Mandy Marshall Nakamarra was born in 1969, at Hermannsburg, NT. Her Grandfather is Albert Namatjira, arguably Australia’s most famous Indigenous artist. Mandy was surrounded by artists and art growing up and from a young age experimented with different mediums and designs.
Mandy spent time in her mother’s homelands of Yuendumu, then moving to Alice Springs with her husband where she continues to try out new styles and designs. She is the cousin of respected artist Nellie Marks Nakamarra, and they often paint side by side
Mandy is a third generation artist – all the stories have been passed down to her and she undoubtedly possesses the talent to transpose her culture to canvas.
Artwork Description
Mandy derives her inspiration for her artworks from the beauty and harshness of the Australian Desert landscape. This painting depicts the startling effect of rains on her country. Illustrated through heavy dotting, it conveys the moving force of wind and rain that has effect upon the sand hills and its surroundings.
