How Artworks Are Sent

Ochre / Kimberley artworks are shipped on canvas or linen, already stretched, ready to hang unless stated otherwise.

Acrylic artworks are shipped on canvas or linen un-stretched, rolled up in a cardboard tube unless stated otherwise.

These artworks will need to be stretched around a wooden frame before hanging

This can be done by nearly any picture framer (highly recommended) or you can DIY if you’re confident in your handiwork.

There are numerous "how to" videos on YouTube showing you how to achieve this.

Artist Profile

Stephen Petyarre was born 1974 in the Utopia region Northern Territory, and is the son of the late Gloria Ngale, a highly respected Elder and artist. Stephen is also the nephew of the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Kudditji Kngwarreye. His Region is Alhalkere and his Language Group is Anmatyerre.

Stephen’s sister is Anna Price Petyarre; it was Anna that inspired Stephen to take up painting as a young man. Stephen is married to artist Bernadine Johnston Kemarre; they divide their time between Utopia and Adelaide where their children attend school.

Stephen is a traditional man, participating in Men’s Business and further learning the dreaming stories of his family and his culture.

Artwork Description

Stephen’s uncle was Senior Lawman and renowned artist, Kudditji Kngwarreye (c. 1928 – 2017). Kudditji was custodian of his country situated approximately 230kms north east of Alice Springs. After his passing Stephen was given permission to paint this country. He uses a heavily loaded paint brush to sweep broadly across the canvas in stages, similar to the western landscape plane. These paintings are romantic images of his country, accentuating the colour and form of the landscape including the depth of the sky in the rainy season and in the summer heat, desert sunrise and sunset.

Loving how Kirstie finds brilliant artists and shares not only the artwork, but the back story of both the piece AND the artist. You can tell she absolutely loves Aboriginal art, and she has such great rapport with the artists.
