Tanya Nangala Price
An Anmatyerre artist from Utopia who learned from her aunt Gracie Morton Pwerle. Her artworks celebrate bush foods, medicine plants, desert flowers and traditional tools, continuing her family’s cultural and artistic legacy. Tanya comes from one of the most widely respected painting families in Utopia. Tanya was born in 1972 at Aileron in the Utopia region of the Northern Territory.
Tanya learned to paint by closely watching her Aunty, senior artist Gracie Morton Pwerle, absorbing both cultural narratives and artistic techniques passed down through generations. Her artworks are strongly connected to her Country, drawing inspiration from the plants, seeds and flowers that flourish after the rare rains in the desert. Utopia, located approximately 300km north-east of Alice Springs, has become internationally renowned for producing many of Australia’s most highly regarded Aboriginal artists.
