Kurun Warun / Gunditjmara Country

Kurun began painting at a very young age, taught by his artist mother, and exhibited alongside her at the age of eight. His mother's people come from Framlingham near Warrnambool, and he counts Archie Roach among his relatives.

Water sits at the centre of much of his work: slow rivers, stones beneath the current, dry creek beds and the eels and other creatures that live there. He balances bold contrasts with open, quiet space so that each story reveals itself slowly. Kurun is also a didgeridoo player and dancer who led the Toolumby Waddama troupe, performed during the Sydney 2000 Olympics and has played for Oprah Winfrey. He lives in the Noosa Hinterland, and his work is held in collections that include the Vatican Museum and Cambridge University.
