Artist Profile

Eulalia Nawajarri Martin is a Bunuba and Gija artist living and creating in Kununurra, on beautiful Mirriwoong Country in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. Born in Broome, Eulalia’s family connections reach across Bunuba and Gija Country. Her grandmother, Maude Bedford, is connected to Calwynyardah on Bunuba Country, while her grandfather Trooper Bedford is connected to Tableland on Gija Country. The name Eulalia means “sweetly spoken”, and Nawajarri is her skin name, given through her grandmother’s people.

Eulalia is a mother, grandmother, sister, aunty, daughter and friend. Before becoming a full-time artist, she worked for more than ten years in civil construction and mining, and also has experience as a chef, playgroup leader and teachers aide. Her decision to focus on painting grew from a lifelong love of art, family, culture, nature and faith, and led to the creation of Eulalia Nawajarri Designs.

Her paintings are deeply personal and are built around her connection to culture, Country, spirit, family and her own life journey. Working with strong colour, flowing pathways, circles, dots and layered patterning, Eulalia creates works that speak of stories, dreams, visions, memory and belonging. Many of her paintings are also created for families, individuals and businesses, with colours and symbols chosen to carry personal meaning and hidden messages for the people who commission them.

Eulalia’s art has reached a wide audience through original paintings, private commissions, school and community projects, digital projection, corporate artwork and licensed design collaborations. Her commissioned artwork Growth was created for iLA and has been used in Reconciliation Action Plan material. Her designs have also been transformed into clothing, accessories and homewares through collaborations with Yarn Marketplace and The Little Pin. Her Tribe of Women collection with Yarn Marketplace supported the National Breast Cancer Foundation, bringing her work into everyday wearable form while also contributing to a meaningful cause.

Eulalia’s practice has also moved beyond canvas into public and community spaces. Her artwork was projected as part of deLight for SPARK Ipswich, and she has worked on community and school projects including commissions for Lowood Kindergarten and Ipswich State High School. These projects reflect the broad appeal of her work and her ability to create art that is personal, story-led and meaningful across family, community, public and corporate settings.

Women, family, motherhood, Country, journeys, gathering places, river systems, wildflowers and the changing Kimberley landscape are recurring themes in Eulalia’s work. Her paintings honour the strength of relationships, the support of community and the stories passed through generations. Whether painting for herself, her family, a client or a wider public project, Eulalia’s work is deeply connected to who she is and where she comes from.

Artlandish is thrilled to be working with Eulalia and to share her paintings with our collectors. As a Kimberley artist living here in Kununurra, her work feels especially meaningful to us. Her paintings are vibrant, generous and full of heart, and we are proud to support her as she continues to grow her already exciting artistic practice.

Artwork Description

As the sun moves across the sky, the Kimberley Ranges come alive with changing colours – Eulalia Nawajarri Martin

In this beautiful painting from her Kimberley Ranges series, Eulalia Nawajarri Martin captures the warmth, movement and changing light of the Kimberley landscape.

The softly rounded forms suggest ancient ranges rising from the pindan earth, layered with colour, rhythm and carefully placed dot work. Pink, red, ochre, gold, mauve, charcoal, grey, black and white echo the way the ranges shift in colour throughout the day, from the gentle tones of morning through to the rich glow of late afternoon.

Rather than painting the ranges as a literal landscape, Eulalia brings them to life through pattern, repetition and feeling. The flowing arches and dotted lines create a sense of depth and movement, reflecting the way the Kimberley can feel both ancient and alive at the same time.

This work is a vibrant and heartfelt painting by a local Kimberley artist, full of warmth, colour and connection to Country.
