I have painted “Crossroads” as a tribute to one of my idols – Uncle Rover (Thomas). We talked a lot when he was sick – he told me stories of his country way down south – and stories about his Dreaming Corroboree – the meaning of the Gurirr Gurirr boards that he and Uncle George (Mung Mung) painted for dancing. My father painted them too and Uncle Jack (Britten). My father was a wonderful dancer (Churchill Cann).
In his desert country, the roads often meet in the middle – sometimes straight up and down and sometimes diagonally – in the wet, there is water to be found where the roads meet.
